Presenting the Francesca V ( as in "V" for Versace) for the Singaporian label alldressedup:
In an extremely commercial collaboration, Francesca's designs doesn't pack the wow-factor of her late Uncle. It chic sportswear at best...but there is something to be said for her work. It is a young designer, designing young clothing. Bravo!
So many young designers these days try to be "evocative" in their work and end up with poorly rendered and aged-looking collection that fails. Francesca has created a series of love garments, meant for young people.
Francesca Versace ended up at St. Martins, by sheer will. She had been turned down the year before and after a year of studying pattern making, re-applied and have been slowly putting the magical Versace design touch to action. Proving naysayers wrong, Francesca's style and design persona do not glow with sex, as seen in the late Gianni's work. Instead, her BA degree collection was an nostalgic ode to time spent with her uncle with slips and shorts, Versace did not respond to interest from buyers and instead turned the capsule collection into the foundation for an archive.
Aside from some collaborative work she also putting the Versace sense of philanthropy to work. Teaming up with nine branded names in Italian politics and society, Francesca has launched her own charity aimed at services for Italian youth. Check it out at: milanoyoung.org
